Kasongan originally a land of paddies owned by villagers in the south of Yogyakarta. In the period of Dutch colonization of Indonesia, in the paddies belonging to one resident found a dead horse. The horse is expected to belong to Dutch detective. Residents who own land are afraid, and soon relinquish the land, which then no longer acknowledged. The same fear also happen to other people who have rice fields around it, eventually also relinquish his land. Because a lot of land that is not recognized, then the other villagers immediately recognize that land.

Finally switched professions to become craftsmen ceramics. Due diligence and traditions from generation to generation, eventually becoming Kasongan Tourist Village, with ceramic craft as its superior. When visiting Kasongan, you can interact directly with the craftsmen, and tried the manufacturing process.
Results Kasongan pottery produced generally in the form urn with various motives, pots of various sizes, souvenirs, frame, wall hangings, furniture such as desks and chairs, etc.. Then developing varied products, including artificial flowers from banana leaves, bamboo furniture, mask and other craft.
One product the famous statue is the bridal pair sitting side by side. This statue is known as the "Loro Blonyo". The statue was adopted from a pair of statues bride's Palace of Yogyakarta. In the Java language, "Loro" means two or a pair, while "Blonyo" means the makeup through a procession of bathing and dressed.
