Parangtritis beach with sand dunes

Parangtritis has its own uniqueness, which is not found in other coastal tourism, namely the dunes around the coast, commonly called "gumuk". Located along the coast until the estuary Opak (Depok Beach), there are 25% or about 75 hectares of dunes that are active. The process of formation, traces of precipitation, wind movement and traces can be observed. Location of active sand dunes located on the east is about Parangkusumo Coast.

While passive dunes occupy the west side of the beach area until Opak, with a parabolic shape and is dominated by a comb. According to the research, there are 190 in Parangtritis dune formation which consists of 70 forms varchan, 80 longitudinal, 30 parabolic, and 10 in the form of a comb. Dunes in Parangtritis is indeed unique, even including the rare sand dunes, currently there are only 2 in the world (in Indonesia, namely Parangtritis and in Mexico).

To study the sand dunes, you can visit the Museum of Nature and Ecology Coastal Parangtritis Yogyakarta. This lab is useful for scientific and recreational activities, where there are natural phenomena, sand dunes. In this museum also features several instruments and literature on geospatial and earth science.
