Museum Wayang (Puppet Museum) Jakarta

The building that looks unique and interesting it has several times experienced reshuffle. At first this building was named De Oude Hollandsche Kerk (Gereja Lama Belanda) and first built in 1640. In 1732 repaired and renamed De Hollandse Nieuwe Kerk (Gereja Baru Belanda) until the year 1808 due to destroyed by an earthquake in the same year. Above-ground ruins of this former puppet museum building was built and inaugurated its use as a museum on August 13, 1975. Although the church has been renovated several old and new parts still be seen in this building.

Museum Wayang (Puppet Museum) displaying various types and forms of puppets from all over Indonesia, both made of wood and leather and other materials. Puppet from abroad, there is also here, for example from the People's Republic of China and Cambodia. Until now the Museum of collecting more than 4,000 puppets, made up of wayang kulit, wayang golek, wayang kardus, wayang rumput, wayang janur, topeng, boneka, wayang beber and gamelan. Generally dolls that were collected in this museum are the dolls that come from Europe, although some are derived from several non-European countries such as Thailand, Suriname, China, Vietnam, India and Colombia.

In addition it also periodically conducted wayang performance in week 2 and to 3 per month.
