Why Lobster Hoopnetting Has Become A Trending Sport

California is a coastal state who has many sport fishing hobbyists. It boasts many popular delicacies that comes off its blue seas. To those who may have had enough of fishing with poles on the beach or sports cruises, it is time to find a more relaxed and enjoyable way to pursue their penchant for going after ocean going animals.

Locals and enthusiasts from across the state and neighboring areas have taken to calling lobsters bugs. It is about affection for the large, spiny crustaceans who inhabit the coastline, hiding in kelp and holes in the daytime, and feeding at night. One of the most popular recreational activities today is lobster hoopnetting Catalina.

However, unlike in the days before stricter fisheries regulations, state statutes says that catching a lobster below a certain length is illegal. The minimum is for a lobster carapace that is three and one fourth inches long. The bugs are then considered mature and catchable, just like the legal age for young people.

Companies are offering charter cruises for those who want to hoopnet lobsters in Catalina. Clients can have all sorts of sport fishing items added to the mix. Although true aficionados prefer doing hoopnetting for lobster alone and not with some other sport. What the client prefers, though, goes. There are night and day cruises, each with a different way of catching crustaceans, which also includes diving down the kelp to get them.

Hoop nets are a traditional way of getting lobsters, and they are very flexible even in places that may not seem easy. When diving, it is harder to reach the lobsters in the kelp or holes around the area. But when working with a cruiser that has a pulley and some davits, the work becomes easier with the bugs.

There can only be one reason for catching a lobster, and that is in having a great seafood meal. For enthusiasts, there is the added thrill of fresh sea air, and often, the beautiful shore scene that can only be seen at night. It is a recreation that has the makings of romance, sport, healthy physical activity and nature's fresh rewards.

For commercial fishermen, the crustaceans here are untouchable, so they need to do their trawling farther out into the ocean. Besides which, the numbers here are not fit for commercial purposes. This is due to the long time abuse of the oceanic populations, so that what were once vast herds or millions of animals are now on the danger levels, so that only sports fishermen can catch maybe half a dozen lobsters here.

Getting into the scene does not require much training or licenses. A charter company can provide all the legal means to get those really big bugs right when they are really catchable. A feast fit for royalty rewards the patient, the skilled and the lucky.

Going after lobsters also does not require as much effort as when catching a big tuna, for example. It does not need long hours of waiting and running around in circles on the ocean. Dip as many hoop nets into the sea as can be done, and simply wait for the bugs to be pulled up.
