If you'd like to know why pet owners tend to take their dogs out on their boats, there are many reasons for this. Most seem to enjoy the bonding that comes about as a result, and many animals enjoy being outside regardless. For those who are looking to get involved in this particular activity, United Yacht Transport can help you get prepared. In order to do so, here are a few of the essential do's and don'ts to take into account.

DO make sure that you have the essentials. Prior to setting sail, you have to make sure that the essentials are brought into the fold. According to companies like United Yacht Transport, one of the most important is a life jacket for your dog. Make sure that the life jacket in question fits them well. While most dogs are able to swim with no problem, you have to keep in mind that safety matters, especially for capable animals.

DON'T think that sunscreen doesn't matter. Sunscreen is important for skin care reasons, but do not think that this is limited to humans. As a matter of fact, it might be in your best interest to apply it to your canine companion, especially if they have shorter hair than other dogs. Even application should be done, so that every area exposed to the sun is covered. Needless to say, you won't have to worry so much about skin damage after this is done.

DO bring along extra water. Anyone who's involved in boat shipping can tell you that heat can result in dogs becoming dehydrated rather easily. In order to combat this, make sure that you bring extra water onto the boat. You will be able to pour this into a bowl, so that your dog can access it with ease. Water is important for all life but when it comes to the heat normally associated with boating, canine pets have a greater need for it than most.

DON'T just bring your pet onto the boat with no preparation. One of the most important things to know about dogs is that it takes time for them to become comfortable with their surroundings. Simply bringing them onto boats isn't going to make them comfortable about future trips. For this reason, you should allow your pet to search around the interior beforehand, so that they can see that there's nothing bad inside. When this is done, their level of comfort will increase.
